Ohmygod, people, I am so behind on everything! I feel now that I have FINALLY finished the vid, I can take a breath and look around and ... obsessively focus on yuletide. (Poor Yuletide writer, if you tracked my LJ as I track my assignee's, I swear, I will write the letter this weekend. And if you have already written the story sans letter, I am sure it is awesome and also I hate and envy your industry and time management. But in a good way.)

Anyway, I did dimly notice some cool things going on up in the air while I was submerged, and in case you missed them, they included:

  • danegen, Used to Love Him (Heathers) - Heathers is the MOVIE OF MY HEART, guys. Okay, I haven't watched it in way too long, but seriously, up until BtVS, I did not think there would ever be another work of art that ever captured the American high school experience so well. (I have to admit, I had forgotten about all the eighties hair. Because when I saw the movie in the eighties, that was just normal.) This vid gets Veronica and everything about Veronica and GODDAMN why can't we have more smart, sharp, mixed-up female heroines like her? Oh, Veronica.
    
    
  • halcyon_shift, Non Lievi Alchun (Merlin) - I have never seen Merlin, and a knowledge of Arthurian myth is not helping me parse this vid, which, after what I'd heard about the series, is not a surprise. I do not care. It is gorgeous. Windows and fair maidens at windows, facing horrors and turning away from them, and Morgana with her Lady of Shalott hair spread out in an implausibly untangled way as she sleeps -- so gorgeous. (Does she say, "The curse is come upon me" in the show? That would be awesome.)
    
    
  • halcyon_shift, Sea Lion (Supernatural) - I actually have Deep Thoughts about this and sweetestdrain's "Lagrimas" and something cesperanza said at VVC and something bradcpu said shortly after VVC and something shati said a while ago (also see her awesome Zoe vid!), but I am running out of time, so I will just say, "WOW" and try to get back to it later.
    
    
  • proofpudding, Pretty (Supernatural) - This gets at the essential wrongness of Sam/Ruby in a profound and profoundly sexy way. I love the claustrophobic close-ups, the tight shots, the chain link backgrounds emphasizing the dead-endedness and entrapment that drive the participants into the relationship. Vidding live fandoms
Surprising no one but me, I did not manage to finish a draft of My First Vid this weekend. I did get more down, though, and I messed enough with computer and avisynth settings that Premiere is no longer crashing quite so often, although I am still planning to try the fix feochadn recommended when I'm done with this project, because, seriously, this is ridiculous.

I finished one more verse! And made significant revisions to two earlier sections! I know you care. I don't understand how people do linear editing, but then I do not understand how people do linear writing, either.

I still nurse faint, unrealistic hopes of finishing the thing before the season premiere, but if not, at least I get Rosh Hashanah off to work on it. I am in terror that the new season will ruin all the ideas I have for vids for live shows, except for when I am in painful hope that I will get the necessary footage for vids that can't be done yet. (MORE DANI REESE, PLEASE.) (Also, I have a weird suspicion that the weird Supernatural crack theory vid might actually get easier to do. Not that I'm planning to do it. It's just lurking on my playlist. Grinning at me from its evil skull face. That's not seductive if you have no skin on, missy!)

I suppose this is how people who write long epics during running shows feel, but since I hardly ever write things with plots, it's so seldom an issue.

My Life and Sarah Connor Chronicles Season One sets just came! I want to coo over them, but there is no time.

I finally bought tickets for the trip to Vividcon. Yay!

I was going to throw myself on the mercy of my f'list to determine whether I should write, vid, see The X Files: I Want to Believe, or see The Dark Knight, but my knee hurts, so I am just going to go home and do whatever requires the least effort.

I do not understand why I can't find an employer who will pay me to read, watch TV, write fiction, or vid all day. What am I doing wrong?

I ♥ fandom. Specifically, I ♥ you. I just spent half an hour reading ten-year-old discussions of "Iolokus" and "Tikkun Olam" on Google Groups, and there you were, some of you, being you before I ever met you. It was like coming back home after my first semester at college and finding that all my high school friends were even more like themselves than I'd remembered them being. Of course, I thought, seeing people for the first time all over again, no wonder I like you. You are so very quintessentially you!

Also, on Friday I saw fans and ate food and watched vids in company and at the end of every vid there was a long satisfied group sigh. I went home and reorganized my vids so that they are on fewer DVDs and alphabetical by vidder and mostly converted to DivX DVD player format, except for the Real Media and Quick Time ones, because it was too late at night when I started reading up on how to convert them and I can do that part next weekend. Also some vids have been corrupted and I have lost them and am sad, but I am sure I will find them again eventually. The Internet is my friend and my friend will provide.
