I keep forgetting my luggage. On the way to, the cab was halfway down the block before I realized I'd left my wheelie backpack in my apartment and on the way from, I'd left the security check and bought a cup of coffee before I realized the reason why I felt so light.

My flight's been delayed an hour. We'll see how long my battery holds out.

Also, if you didn't see the update to my last post, [livejournal.com profile] sweetestdrain posted her TERMINATOR VID OF AWESOME, so check her LJ for it.

This year's VVC notes are in the same notebook as last year's VVC notes, which means I never typed up most of last year's VVC notes (I throw out the handwritten notes once I've typed and edited them).  So I am going to type this all up quickly rather than exhaustively just to get panel reports up here while people still care.  If anybody does still care about notes from last year's Vids That Push the Envelope, In-Depth Vid Review, and Vid Review Part II panels, let me know.

Timing Is Everything
Moderator: [livejournal.com profile] heresluck
This panel approaches timing on both a micro level (making the most of individual sounds in a piece of music) and a maco level (pacing a vid as a whole). Although it will be aimed primarily at vidders, the panel might also be of use to vidwatchers and betas seeking to understand how vidders create particular aesthetic and emotional responses through their choices about timing and pacing. Questions to be discussed could include: What are techniques for landing stuff on the beat? How do we acknowledge the beat yet avoid boring/predictable monotony of cuts? How do we decide whether and why to cut fast or slowly? How do internal and external motion of clips affect our perception of pacing?

I C WHUT I DID THAR: Understanding Meta Vids
Moderated by [livejournal.com profile] millylicious and [livejournal.com profile] nightchik, following the vidshow VJ'd by nightchik and [livejournal.com profile] kiki_miserychic.

Discussion pertaining to the methods and reasoning of reading the meta level of vids. Discussion of the visual, narrative, and stylistic choices that lead to a meta reading. Meta vids being those that work in more ways than one, often suggesting a basis beyond the individual fandoms of the source andmore about a larger concept and/or fandom itself. Vids that go beyond the narrative of their source, commenting on the nature of that narrative, connecting with outside meanings, or placing the story in a larger cultural context.

Hey, I'm looking for a couple of vids:

  • A Parker vid (Leverage) from the second half of Club Vivid. I'd thought it was a premiere, but apparently not: it's not listed in the program book and doesn't seem to be on the DVDs.
  • The reference vid from the In-Depth Vid Review panel, a 10/Rose vid (Dr. Who) that I think may be called "Two Hearts"? Features use of text in the vid, water imagery (to text about fire, I think?), a quote about two hearts.

ETA: Found, thank you all!
