I think it is part of the "He's an asshole (or insane vicious serial killer, whatever) to everyone but ME, because love tames him!" trope, which doesn't appeal to me much in general, and particularly not when the assholitude/serial killing isn't noticeably scaled down even by love.

I have been reading the manga now that my library has it, and am tempted to rewatch the anime. I think it might improve the second time around, especially given my new fondness for CLAMP. (Also, I'd probably just skip the first 8 or 9 episodes.)

My sense is that a lot of shippers don't like Orihime. Me, I prefer the other ship, but still like Orihime.

Yes. I like Ichigo/Rukia a lot better than Ichigo/Orihime, but I still like Orihime. I just think he and Rukia bring out more in each other.

I like Orihime/Tatsuki best of the possible Orihime pairings, but could also go for Orihime/Ishida or (outside shot) Orihime/Chad.

I prefer Ichigo/Rukia because it feels a lot more complex than Ichigo/Orihime. I don't really object to the latter ship in principle though.
