Imaginary vids

  1. [livejournal.com profile] yhlee is right: Jodi Shaw's "The Forger" would make a good Veronica Mars vid. At least, I assume she was thinking of Veronica Mars and not Angel, because I don't think it would make a good Angel vid. Although I'm ready to be proved wrong.

  2. For a long time, my imaginary vid for Better Than Ezra's "One More Murder" was the film for Neil Gaiman's American Gods. There is no film for American Gods. But if there were, you could do a really good vid to it with Better Than Ezra's "One More Murder". It would work great for the [spoiler] plotline in that town whose name I can't remember, which probably means I should reread the book.

But now I've realized you could also do a really good "One More Murder" vid with Ultraviolet, which actually exists, and I am torn. I don't know where to put the song in my list of imaginary vids.

Since they are imaginary, I guess I could use it for both of them, but that feels like cheating.

Do you know what time of year it is? It's nearly Vividcon time, that's what time of year it is! This means I will learn entirely new music and have entirely new playlists, including but not limited to Vividcon 2005. I started listening to my Vividcon 2004 playlist out of sheer nostalgia, and it made me very happy.

I suppose an Angel vid might be possible if one were doing the creepy ironic thing with Angel-the-stalker-artist, and I don't know that the lyrics support it. (I like what I've understood of the lyrics. I don't hear much--I'll look the lyrics up later, I swear.) But seriously, Veronica Mars...

Alas, I have Janis Ian Veronica Mars vid to do. For my own peace (?!), if no one else's. :-)

Addendum

--actually, embarrassingly enough, it wasn't even the lyrics that made me think VID! It was the dancing 6/8 (12/8? I think 6/8, but I'd have to look more at the structure to guess) guitar (?) and especially that four-note descending chromatic figure in the descant--

I shut up now because this is outside my purview. The song by itself makes me happy; it shall suffice. (Not that I'm not tempted, but really, this song awaits an experienced vidder...)

You are under no obligation to vid this. I was merely acknowledging the brilliance of your thought.

Oh, heck, I'd adore the experience of vidding this. :-) I just feel it would make sense for a better vidder to take a stab at it, if any find themselves interested, because I am all intimidated about vidding and stuff.

'Course, if no one else is stampeding the gates, I may take a stab. Assuming no one would hurt me for doing so.

The Frames' "Fitzcarraldo" would make a fantastic Lymond-movie vid, especially round about Disorderly Knights/Pawn in Frankincense. The fact that these movies do not exist positively breaks me heart. I imagine vids to it the way I imagine vids to tv shows.

So, erm, I know whereof you speak.

Oh man - it is like we are the same person!!

I vid books. I vid graphic novels. I have songs and imaginary vids for fanfic... and yeah it is cheating to wrench a song from its happy imaginary place and force it to be a real vid (or potential real vid and really - Shrodinger's vid) but I do it all the time. But I always feel a little bit guilty, as if I am confusing the song and sending it mixed messages. The song thought I wanted it to be this one thing, and I did and the song was that thing and all was well and then I turn around and want the song to be something else and maybe the song can do it and maybe the song can't and it is not fair for me to change the rules of our relationship midstream like that.

When it comes to songs I like? I'm actually a really bad boyfriend.

Maybe the song also needed a change. Maybe the song also had the potential for growth. You hooked up a while ago, after all, and maybe it doesn't want you to keep thinking of it in the same old way, same old dependable nonexistent fandom. Maybe it feels like it's in a rut, and that change you're afraid will drive you apart is actually a sign that you're both growing in the same direction together.

Maybe the two of you are lines in a Jimmy Buffett song.

[identity profile] sisabet.livejournal.com 2005-07-14 05:16 pm (UTC)(link)
That is actually kinda beautiful. Except where you turned me into a Jimmy Buffet song.

Although... there is a Lord King Bad Vid idea somewhere in all of this...

There is a Lord King Bad Vid idea in everything. You just need to know where to look.

My imaginary Lord King Bad Vid vid is Spike and Angel competing to "King of Pain."

BEE-U-TEE-FUL!

Except... imagine Spike and Angel competing to "Xanadu."

When I get my computer back - remind me to show you "Closer" laid over the Carpenter's "Yesterday Once More" - it works in a very scary way.

Are sure "Xanadu" isn't a song for the Potentials?

[identity profile] sisabet.livejournal.com 2005-07-14 05:47 pm (UTC)(link)
We have had this discussion before. Long Live Lord King Bad vid!

Ooh, what is your Vividcon 2004 playlist? sounds interesting....

Damn, that's neat (also, how sad is it, altho I didn't even go to Vividcon, I can associate the vids with about 2/3 of those songs without being told?). Thankee.

[identity profile] vonnie-k.livejournal.com 2005-07-13 09:38 pm (UTC)(link)
I think I've downloaded the Jodi Shaw on my home PC when you linked to it. Must listen to it further to support the VM-compatibility!

OMG ONE MONTH TO GO UNTIL VIVIDCON! *flails*

[identity profile] yhlee.livejournal.com 2005-08-20 07:03 am (UTC)(link)
V. belatedly--you vid it! Then I won't be tempted to try! (Well, when the DVDs arrive. Grumble grumble.)

Completely tangentially, I now have a Gunn vidbunny. Fibonacci sequence, hells. The things breed faster.

VVC! I am breathless with anticipation of chewy VVC posts to come! =) No pressure on anyone...
