Dear fandom

'I don't know what you mean by "glory,"' Alice said.

Humpty Dumpty smiled contemptuously. 'Of course you don't--till I tell you. I meant "there's a nice knock-down argument for you!"'

'But "glory" doesn't mean "a nice knock-down argument,"' Alice objected.

'When _I_ use a word,' Humpty Dumpty said in rather a scornful tone, 'it means just what I choose it to mean--neither more nor less.'

'The question is,' said Alice, 'whether you CAN make words mean so many different things.'

'The question is,' said Humpty Dumpty, 'which is to be master--that's all.'

Alas, the entire post is over by 10 words.

Also, it lacks recognizable characterization and a coherent narrative.

I figured it out. [livejournal.com profile] fuda_100 has been plagued with non-drabbles lately, woes.

Man, that annoys me *so much* and then I'm like why am I so upset over something that doesn't matter?

But <3! Humpty Dumpty is to blame for introducing me to literary criticism. Deconstructing the language of Jabberwocky indeed.

*grins*

But of course words should mean whatever we want them to mean! Who needs to understand each other?

Can I just say a-freaking-men?! This is probably one of my biggest pet peeves in fandom - a drabble is 100 words - period, no wiggle room, ever. If you write something shorter it's not a drabble. If it's longer, again, it's not a drabble. Why is it people think they have to reinvent the wheel when they join fandom?

GRAR.

*puts Bitter Old Fic Queen crown on*

I was writing drabbles before LiveJournal and all its loosely-governed fanfic communities even existed!

Kids, these days...
