Themed Show & Non-Attending Premieres
killabeez, We Don't Stop (The Wire)
I often have a hard time connecting emotionally to ensemble vids for shows I don't know, but that's not the case here. I think it is because Killa is magic. I love the sense of restless, constant energy, and how thoroughly this is a vid about race and class as invisible systems that move everyone and have direct, intimate, personal impacts.
hollywoodgrrl, Deeper and Deeper (Legend of the Seeker)
I read this as being about domination and the desire to dominate, a counterpart to Doll Parts; a friend sees it as describing the cycle of violence and abuse.
As gorgeous as usual.
greensilver, Lend Me Your Teeth (Doctor Who)
I love the entire Unusual POV show and this premiere from the POV of the weeping angels is no exception. Nicely creepy.
kiki_miserychic, A Bar in Amsterdam (Ginger Snaps trilogy)
Sometimes I think migraine trigger is Kiki's default state of being. (This is not a complaint.)
This is cut so quickly it is overwhelming and I kind of hate it and kind of love it, which is exactly how I feel about the gore in the Ginger Snaps movies. I'm not sure I have any idea what is going on, except in the section that seems to be about female participation in the punishment and control of deviant feminity (hi, Trina; hi, Ghost), but it is all awful and hilarious and gross, just like puberty.
kiki_miserychic, U.R.A. Fever (Fringe)
This year had two action heroine Olivia vids, which makes me ecstatically happy. They both had Olivia being awesome and Olivia doing sit-ups, which are two of my very favorite things. I love non-stop action of this and how "We ain't born typical" comes across as sheer drive rather than necessarily cortexiphan. The slipperiness of the POV is also pretty cool, particularly on the last verse.
obsessive24, I Wish I Was Queer So I Could Get Chicks (Supernatural)
A double-edged blade: I'm not sure whether the side aimed at Supernatural or the side aimed at its fandom is sharper. Then again, it is a folie à deux.
sweetestdrain, Make Something Good (Merlin)
I love how this reconciles the Gwen of the show with the Guinevere of legends: the sweetness, patience, persistence, and devotion to justice that we see in Gwen makes her the center or unnoticed creator of a network of bonds that create Camelot. I also love how it's Gwen/everyone, lost Morgana and lost Lancelot a sorrow despite the triumph of the Arthur/Gwen/Merlin OT3 in the end.
