sockkpuppett is fond of saying that vidding is like trying to write a story entirely out of sentences you cut out of other stories. I think making your first vid is like trying to write a story entirely out of sentences you cut out of other stories--but first you need to learn the English language. And if you are unwise enough to plan a vid where you need to use After Effects, you will also need to learn some Greek.

Whoa. I am intrigued by the moon in the star and the star in the moon. Ruby's a good name, seems like.

Thank you! It's a very evocative name, anyway. I was giddy supersaturating reds and picking out lunar or circular (feminine) imagery.

Woo-hoo! You finally finished it! Congrats!

My knowledge of SPN S3 is kinda sketchy, but I love the way you use imagery and symbols in this vid. Lots of interesting layers that I haven't even begun to parse yet.

It feels like I've been working on it forever! I don't know what to do with myself now. (Well, except catch up on TV. I am two weeks behind on SCC!)

It's cool!

I have no idea what's going on, since I haven't watched the show since the beginning of the second season. But it looks really cool, and I like the way things melt into other things, like drawn circle into moon. And all the drippy blood images. And Sam looking dangerous.

You are the most supportive friend ever! I'm glad you like the melty imagery.

I love this song and have been both wanting and worried about what would happen if somebody vidded it.

So, I'm blowing out a huge breath of releif and yes, OMG, what a look at Sam (and Dean) through Ruby's eyes. There are others amongst the YEDs children that she could've chosen, but I think you go a very long way to show what Ruby sees in Sam. He's not the fastest, the most powerful, the most maliable, and that's what makes him like no other.

I liked the use of "he belongs to me" in conjunction with the images of the YED and Ruby. And it was creepy-cool because it reinforced the notion that Sam's never really been his own person. He was created to serve one agenda and now he's been co-opted for another.

Oh, thank you! I'm so happy all that came through. (Beta reaction to the first draft generally ran, "Well, you said it was going to be a vid about Ruby, but then suddenly there were these sections all about Sam." I tried to make it clear it was Ruby's view of Sam, but I was never sure it worked.) And yes, one of the things I find most compelling about Sam's plotline is how desperately he tried to escape a proscribed, predetermined future, only to find out it had been determined even earlier than he'd thought. I think there's this interesting tension in the show, about whether it's Sam's demonic influences or his human connections that make him more dangerous, and I wanted to show Ruby playing on both of those elements.

I'm so glad you felt I did the song justice. It seemed so perfect for Ruby, with the alternation between otherworldly spookiness and violent threat.

Gorgeous! And very menacing. I love all the circles: the moon, the seals and sigils, the clocks... by the end of the vid, the clock in Sam's nursery feels like an arcane spell.
