Summary: Kubota and Tokito search for a bar girl with a possible connection to Wild Adapter.

Ratings and/or warnings: Gen with mild Kubota/Tokito. Cursing in English and Tagalog. Violence, not particularly explicit. Discussion of sex work, not particularly explicit. Yokohama geography, largely fabricated. (Sorry. The city of Yokohama inexplicably failed to include information about yakuza haunts and illegal sex shops on its official website.)

Notes: Written for mscongeniality for Yuletide 2005. Beta by shrift and ranalore, who are gracious, generous, and speedy, and not to blame for any errors about fire hydrants or misused metaphors. The version on my site is slightly revised because when you are still writing three minutes before the deadline, you may make major internal continuity errors in your own damn mystery.

I don't know anything about the fandom, but I loved the story -- the environment, the pairing and the details. And of course the prose style was lovely.

I've been getting some v late email notifications, not getting others ((eyes LJ suspiciously)).

Your writing consistently pulls me in -- pretty much doesn't matter what fandom it's in. (That's pretty amazing, since I rarely read outside of my v well-established fandoms.)

I just read this. Wow, what a ride.

Without knowing the fandom at all, I enjoyed this as an original short story. It's spooky and evocative of things that smell of blood and lurk in shadows, which is all marvelous, but the best part to me was the real-world stuff: dark-skinned bar girls suffering the cold hardness of Yokohama, dreaming of the sun and smiles they left behind. You do great things with language, many languages, to keep it real. And it's heartbreaking.
