Want fluff. Want it now. Losing pronouns in reversion to wailing baby with toothache.

Have been making use of [livejournal.com profile] yasminm's excellent IRC tutorial, but still find entire thing wasteland of confusion and misdirection. Stumble upon Fruits Basket, but no--timeout, queues, delusion or possibly mirage. So sad.

Also, convinced am unknowingly breaking rules and mortally offending channel denizens every other second. V. depressing.

Had root canal this morning. Feel deserving of fluff.

Which is to say, if any of you should just so happen to have scanlations of Fruits Basket after volume 6, Hana-Kimi after volume 3, or W Juliet after volume 1, I'd greatly appreciate it if you could send them my way.

If you haven't already read this: http://www.strangehorizons.com/2004/20041213/230-f.shtml

If it helps, you're welcome. If not, blame [livejournal.com profile] sdn.

Hope you feel better soon. (Would sucking on a clove help or is that just for dry sockets after extractions?)

Yes, I saw that. I have to admit I have slightly more sympathy for the attempted genocide than I would have had two days ago.

Sigh. I only wish I could help.

W Juliet should not be as entertaining as it is, but oh, it is fun.

Found complete bitTorrent of HanaKimi, which almost makes up for not being able to get any FB except v.9, which doesn't do me much good without v.7-8. Oh! And v.4-5 of Imadoki, which has been annoying me since v.2, but which I can't resist anyway. Damnit.

W Juliet is mediocre and yet strangely entrancing.

I found an excellent IRC tutorial once (it was an actual flash-animated demonstration), but so far my efforts to find it again have been unsuccessful. All I know is it was on some Bleach fansite.

Let me know if you find any Fruits Basket scanslations, prettyplease? All I've been able to find are translations and sometimes raws.

I saw W Juliet in Waldens the other day - what's it about? Is it good, or at least entertaining?

A group called Eden seems to have done scanlations up to at least volume 11. I'm just having a hard time getting hold of them.

W Juliet isn't terribly good, but it's entertaining anyway? Or it hits enough buttons of mine. Boyish Ito Makura is the president of the drama club, and quickly becomes the mentor of a new transfer student, the gorgeous and perfectly feminine Makoto Amano, who's cast as Juliet against her Romeo in the school play. She discovers that Makoto is really a boy, who has a bet with his traditional father that he'll be allowed to leave the family business and become an actor if he can carry off the masquerade of being a girl until he graduates from high school.

Huh, I'll have to poke around Google a bit more, then.

I think I saw W Juliet advertised in one of the other serieses I read. It sounds cute, I'll check it out next time I go in.

... I should get around to making the extra bits on how to check your queues and get out of one, shouldn't I?

That wasn't a hint! I am just boggled by the technology.

I am very grateful for the tutorial, really.

[identity profile] quixotic-sense.livejournal.com 2004-12-14 05:13 pm (UTC)(link)
*g* I know. It's just me being an obsessive-compulsive over-achiever again.

The technology isn't that difficult to figure out, given a certain value of "figuring out". Mostly it's just a matter of working out how to stay on IRC without getting the dreaded "timed out" messages, and what all those weird commands actually do.

The impression I get is that most scanlators and digisubbers assume that fans who want to download from them are as IRC- and tech-savvy as they are, especially given that IRC's been around for a very long time (it's also the safest way to distribute copyrighted material, because IRC is relatively underpoliced). So when they do write up tutorials, of course these tutorials are more confusing than helpful. >_>

Congrats on the root canal. The process, for me, wasn't pleasant, but then THE PAIN WENT AWAY.

I repeat, NO MORE PAIN.

See, I'm not actually understanding the Dread of Root Canals any better now that I've had one. While undergoing the root canal, I had a nicely effective local anaesthetic applied. After the root canal, I had pain killers, which dealing with the lesser pain of a cleaned & filled cavity, actually worked.

It was the pain LEADING to the root canal that was the problem. I feel better already. I filled my Vicodin prescription but haven't felt impelled to take it.

Yeah, people always talk about them like they're scary, but my endodontist was actually super-gentle--small hands, little encouraging pats on the shoulder, etc..
