Blame it on thinking about Nearly New.

Remasters with logo-free source and a larger option ("Etheric Messages") and color and timing corrections and that weird lighting glitch in the end credits fixed ("Vampire Diaries"). Also, I edited the credits to read "Festivids 2009" instead of "Festivids 2010" since majority opinion opted for the wrong former numbering scheme. Ahhhh, logo-free source, I love you! There really isn't that much difference in this particular case, because I was mostly using S1 (DVD) source and X-Logo worked well on the clearest clips, but it makes me happy anyway.

It's been a hard year for me, life spilling over into fandom, I guess; I got less writing done than I planned, and wasn't happy with what I did. In 2009, I think I will take a break from ficathons, exchanges, and external deadlines: Remix and Yuletide both felt like trying to wring blood from a stone, and I'm afraid it showed in the end-result. The recipients deserved better. There was a story I wanted to do for last year's halfamoon that I'd still like to do for this year's: or intellectually I would like to, but emotionally I just feel worn out. Maybe I'll stick to recs. I have 734 words on a long overdue Sweet Charity assignment, but I think there's probably about 10,000 to go; I'd like to finish it just not to feel guilty about it, but again -- I feel so burned out.

eta note on source: The Revengers Tragedy is a Jacobean revenge tragedy adapted into a grungy, sumptuous dystopian science fiction movie starring Christopher Eccleston, and featuring Eddie Izzard, Derek Jacobi, and many other people vaguely familiar to me from other British TV and movies.

Since it's called The Revengers Tragedy, I do not feel it constitutes a spoiler to warn you that ( this thing I am going to spoiler-cut anyway happens )

The original play was once attributed to Cyril Tourneur, who produced nothing else but a truly awful play called The Atheist's Tragedy, and is now commonly believed to have been written by Thomas Middleton, although I have my doubts, since The Changlelings and Women Beware Women are just as misogynistic as The Revenger's Tragedy but have much rounder characterization. My favorite speech from The Revenger's Tragedy is pretty characteristic, both in language and attitude:

VINDICI to THE SKULL OF HIS MURDERED WIFE:
Thou sallow picture of my poisoned love,
My study's ornament, thou shell of death,

I gave giandujakiss a song, a summary line, two very long emails about the conceptual basis of the vid, four or five lyric matching suggestions, and a ton of headaches during the beta process. She made a vid that did everything I wanted but even better. It was like all the fun parts of writing a story without any of the hard parts, and she never once complained about the Sweet Charity story I owed her, already three months overdue. It was AWESOME.

I am being all quiet and restrained because I love the vid so much I'm almost exploding with it. But what I want to say most is: GO WATCH IT NOW NOW NOW. PLEASE.
