It's like it's auction season.

[livejournal.com profile] con_or_bust helps people of color attend WisCon and other SFF conventions that are committed to increasing racial diversity and understanding in science fiction and fantasy fandom and the field generally. It began as a response to RaceFail '09, when people of color expressed the desire to help each other attend WisCon (a prominent feminist SFF convention). There is more information on the project here.

I am offering one fanfiction story, minimum bid $5. Bidding runs from February 22 to March 13, but you can offer an auction item or service and make donations now. If you are interested in requesting assistance, there is more information here.

[livejournal.com profile] savetheproject is a fandom auction to benefit the Virginia Avenue Project, a free afterschool arts and academics program. 100% of participating children graduate from high school. 95% go on to college. 98% are the first person in their family to go.

I know of the Virginia Avenue Project through [livejournal.com profile] rachelmanija, who has been a volunteer at the project for many years, and has often spoken about working with the kids and hearing from them after they've gone on to college.

[livejournal.com profile] care_faith_hope is a fandom auction to benefit [livejournal.com profile] faithhopetricks. Bidding begins on September 28, 2009, Monday, 10 a.m. Pacific time, and closes on October 10, 2009, Saturday, 11:59 p.m. Pacific time. Please do not bid until bidding opens.

What's the cause?
This auction is to raise money for the medical expenses of [info]faithhopetricks and her husband. They have no health insurance and no savings, and her husband requires immediate heart surgery.

Her husband has a congenital condition which caused him to have a heart attack and double stents placed while he was still in his thirties. He now needs to have either multiple stents placed or a bypass operation. Which occurs will be determined by his doctors this week when he goes in for surgery. It has also not been determined how much of the costs of the operation will be covered by the hospital: it may cover most of the costs, some of the costs, or none of the costs.

Regardless of the costs of the procedure itself, he will require cardiac rehab afterward. He also has multiple and, given his heart condition, potentially life-threatening other conditions, all of which have gone untreated or poorly treated due to his lack of health insurance. [livejournal.com profile] faithhopetricks also has multiple and severe health conditions which have also gone untreated or poorly treated due to lack of health insurance.

This auction is to raise money for their combined medical and medical-related expenses. (Medical-related includes things like taxi fare to get her husband to his cardiac rehab appointments.)

Some details have been left out for reasons of privacy. Please do not contact [livejournal.com profile] faithhopetricks to inform her of government assistance programs she can apply for. We are working on that. However, if you know of job openings for an IT professional in greater Seattle, her husband will be seeking a job as soon as he recovers.

How can I help?
You can bid on fanfic, original fic, vids, cookies, memorabilia, critique/betas, and much more! Or you can offer your skills and services as a writer, vidder, baker, knitter, or whatever else you'd like.
