Lyrics
TV's on, the favorite son
is watchin' how the West was won
Daddy, please, a plastic gun
Get brother one for twice the fun
Little camo helmet heads
Makin' brave and playin' dead
And missiles made of gingerbread
And dollars on the dime

Hey ho, so it goes
The point of sale, the puppet show
The merchant kings of war and woe
have turned their hands to labor
Sound out the trumpet noise
The cannons bark and jump for joy
Someone's dread and darlin' boy
has fallen on his saber

So bring your kids and coddled pets
Bouncin' babes in bassinets
We'll play a game with tanks and jets
Better yet, bayonets
Action dolls with laser sights
Robot planes that shoot at night
Faster, kid, and get it right
We're rollin' down the line

Hey ho, so it goes
The point of sale, the puppet show
The merchant kings of war and woe
have turned their hands to labor
Sound out the trumpet noise
The cannons bark and jump for joy
Someone's dread and darlin' boy
has fallen on his saber

These days the spin machine
is always on the silver screen
Secret plots and submarines
Foreign fiends and magazines
Wave the flag and watch the news
And tell us we can count on you
'Cause Mom and Dad are marchin', too
Children, step in time

Hey ho, so it goes
The point of sale, the puppet show
The merchant kings of war and woe
have turned their hands to labor
Sound out the trumpet noise
The cannons bark and jump for joy
Someone's dread and darlin' boy
has fallen on his saber

Wow, this is great. It also makes the MCU suitably disturbing with its military while looking very cool.

Holy crap, this is so well done. What an amazing argument you make. It's making me crave so much more world-building than the movies have really given us. I love the footage you've used - it's making these movies seem fresh all over again, despite the staggering number of vids already made. Brava!

Absolutely gorgeous. I love MCU but am all to aware of the darker side of it's heroes. This captures that wonderfully!

Watched it on youtube, and hope to download it later, but I wanted to say wow right away. Obviously, it's a really well done vid technically, but I also wanted you to know that I thought it did a great job of getting its message across. Obviously, juxtaposing all those moments from that many different sources drives home the part of the Marvel Avengers cinematic universe that some people can overlook amid the squee, but putting one bit against the next really throws that theme into sharp relief. It was really smart to make the connections between the Hulk and Steve--I'd never put together how visually similar that footage was until your vid showed it.

But, honestly, I thought the smartest part was ending with the Marvel logo as the whole screen. Now that I've seen it that way, I can't imagine any other image being the last one on the screen and having the same effect. Well done.

I haven't watched yet, but I have been WAITING for someone to do a vid to this song in one of the violent/militaristic types of fandoms. SO I AM CELEBRATING SO HARD both for its EXISTENCE and because it is in a fandom I LOVE. omg. omg. :)

Oh, fantastic! Really amazingly well edited and packs a great punch - critical without even having to do much work at all recontextualising source to make your point. It's all just right there. I look forward to watching it many times.

aslksljflas'j'fksahfs;a this is just FANTASTIC. I've watched it four times today already, and have been humming the song all day. It gives me CHILLS. The very sinister theme is so unlike most MCU vids, even the really angsty ones…I think the way you bring in the children at the end, the next generation of kids looking up to these soldiers, is particularly effective. And the evolving use of the 'puppet shows' line….And of course the fantastic choice to end with the 'Marvel' logo. Ouch.

I love love love the deftness of your editing, particularly the way you manage to make all those blinking lights and little Tony Stark gestures fit so beautifully with the music. You interweave the film footage with the SHIELD footage seamlessly. I think the first chorus is my favourite part? But that may change as I watch it eleventy thousand more times. I am just in awe of all your parallels, and the way you have somehow made this REALLY well-used footage seem fresh and new, and the way you don't cut really fast but still somehow keep the movement and pacing flowing continuously.

In short: <3
